Based in Christchurch, Dorset; we provide a flexible yet professional & reliable service to locally based clients as we believe face-to-face communication is the key to quality service.
Earle Accountancy is a family run business currently operating on part time hours during evenings & weekends although we will always try to answer your calls or emails during the day when possible.
So if you find yourself struggling to keep your financial records up to date or get frustrated by the time you spend completing & filling out your tax return each year why not consider whether, during the valuable time its taking, you could be completing a job & therefore increasing your income!
We deal with a variety of clients from self-employed tradesmen, sole traders to partnerships & employed individuals with a separate rental income.
We are able to process & record all of your day-to-day business activity including sales & purchase invoices, receipts & payments. We tailor our service frequency to your level of activity & can update your files monthly, quarterly, twice annually or once; prior to the end of your financial year.
Self-Assessment Tax Returns
This involves completing an online (or paper) tax return; within which details of your income, capital gains, tax allowances or relief are provided to HMRC in order to calculate your tax liability for the financial year. This is an annual process which we are able to complete & submit of your behalf.
Compiled & presented at the financial year end, your profit & loss account & tax calculations are provided in a clear & concise format with the option of a balance sheet should it benefit your business.
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
The Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) can appear daunting however, if you’re a contractor within the construction industry, we can help get you registered, submit your monthly returns & even produce CIS deduction statements for your sub-contractors.
If you are interested in our company, wondering how we can help you, or just have a general enquiry please do not hesitate to contact us
Our charges vary as no two companies or individuals are the same & therefore prices can be arranged on a fixed fee basis or hourly rates depending on your preference. We are able to offer a monthly, quarterly or annual service to suit the activity levels of you and/or your business and, subject to your location, we’ll also offer to collect your paperwork.
All expected charges are quoted in advance of work being carried out & should extra work be required any additional charge would be discussed prior to it being incurred. An important factor is that our agreed charge incorporates a reasonable allowance for telephone calls, emails & meetings throughout the course of the year, we do not charge extra for a 5 minute chat.
Our payment terms are strictly 14 days net from the invoice date unless agreed in writing by Earle Accountancy.
Invoices can be settled directly by cash, cheque or bank transfer. (details available on request)
What is bookkeeping?
Bookkeeping is the recording of financial transactions. Transactions include; sales, purchases, receipts and payments by an individual or organisation. The two most common methods of bookkeeping are the single-entry and the double-entry bookkeeping systems.
Do I need a bookkeeper?
Every business, no matter how large or small, is required by law to record the financial transactions undertaken by an individual or organisation. This can be a huge task for any business and if not done so correctly can cause problems with income tax and VAT returns later. Self-employed individuals and people with a second income will, in most cases also need to keep financial records in order to complete and file a self-assessment tax return.
Do I need to complete a tax return?
If you have relatively straight forward tax affairs and already pay tax through PAYE (Pay As You Earn) you probably won’t need to complete a tax return. But if you have more complicated tax affairs – or income from several sources – you may need to complete one. Please note; if you are self-employed (including being a member of a partnership) you always have to complete a tax return. If you’re still unsure further information is available at HM Revenue & Customs website.
How do I register for self-assessment?
You should register with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) if you need to complete a self-assessment tax return. For example you may have started self-employment or letting property. HMRC will then decide if you need a tax return. If you do, they’ll set up your tax records and send you a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). Further information on registering for self-assessment is available at the HM Revenue & Customs website.
Why use a bookkeeper?
A bookkeeper can save you from the often time-consuming and repetitious, yet essential workload of recording financial transactions, enabling you to concentrate on the core business tasks and to focus on your customers.
What makes a good bookkeeper?
A good bookkeeper is one that records financial transactions of the business accurately, that has obtained qualifications recognised by professional institutions, and is honest and reliable. It is also someone who is approachable at all times and can communicate effectively in a ‘language’ you can understand.
Can you liaise with HMRC on my behalf?
Yes, when we start working with you we apply to act as your agent with HMRC. We can then speak to and correspond with HMRC on your behalf should the need arise.
What is the deadline for submitting my tax return?
When filing paper returns the deadline is the 31st October and when filing electronic returns online the deadline is the 31st January.
On recommendation from a colleague I engaged Earle Accountancy to handle a tax refund case for me. Adrian was both professional & quick, saving me considerable time & helping me get some of my hard earned money back from the taxman. Highly recommended!
Being completely unaware of my tax responsibilities I was really impressed how straight talking & relaxed Earle Accountancy were. My self-assessment tax return was completed well before the deadline & I managed to get a small rebate from HMRC for the tax I’d paid through Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) jobs earlier in the year. Great service.
Earle Accountancy were superb! More than helpful even at 9pm on one occasion; compiling my invoices, receipts & payments, producing an easy to understand report for my company finances. Which, once approved, Adrian used to complete my tax return with HMRC and file it on my behalf.
